Richard Rudisill - Class Of 1968

Richard Boland "Rick" Rudisill, 62, Hershey, PA, entered into eternal rest following a brief yet courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday August 28, 2013. Born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania on August 29, 1950, to Lorna (Boland) Rudisill and the late Dr. Richard A. Rudisill, Rick was a graduate of Hershey High School and Gettysburg College. He later earned a Master's Degree in elementary education from the Pennsylvania State University. Mr. Rudisill retired from the Central Dauphin School district following over 35 years of teaching, with most of his career spent at Fishing Creek Valley Elementary School. For a brief time in the early 1970s Rick was employed by the former Hershey Estates Police as a patrolman and the Township of Derry as a fire and police dispatcher. Rick was a life member of the Hershey Volunteer Fire Company since 1968 and served as president of the company from 1976-88 and 1990-97. Since that time he has continued to serve actively as a fire apparatus driver and trustee. Foremost, he was a friend and mentor to all in the firehouse family. His good will was not limited to his own fire company as Rick enjoyed spending time traveling the region and beyond greeting brother firefighters, trading stories and viewing their fire equipment. Rick was an authority on all things history. He authored two books "Protecting His Dream" an illustrated history of the Hershey Fire Company and "Rebels in Our Woods" a children's novel about the experiences of a young boy during the Battle of Gettysburg. Rick always led by a quiet example that served as an inspiration to others. Surviving are his wife, Kathleen; mother, Lorna; son, Patrick and his fiancée, Stephanie Cossar, all of Hershey; daughter Erin Luccio and her husband, Justin of Baltimore, MD; a brother Vincent Rudisill of Palmyra; and brothers and sisters past and present of the volunteer organization to which he pledged so much of his time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hershey Volunteer Fire Company, 21 West Caracas Avenue, Hershey, PA 17033.
